According to House Speaker John Bohner, “It isn’t more money that the EPA needs—it’s more accountability.”
The House has spent the week debating the hotly contested H.R. 2822 the Interior & Environment funding bill that is designed to make every dollar count and hold the current administration accountable. The controversial bill slashes the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) budget by nine percent and includes provisions that will protect American jobs and energy. If the bill passes it will prevent the EPA from finalizing new power plant rules that could force the shutdown of as many as 93 power plants and eliminate 296,000 jobs. The House Appropriations Committee approved the bill on June 16 with a vote of 30–21.
