According to the American Chemistry Council (ACC), the U.S. chemical industry is expected to see a 3.2 percent gain in production volumes this year. The ACC’s mid-year report said that 2016 would realize approximately a 3.0 percent increase, slightly down from the outlook published for 2014. The strong U.S. dollar was cited as a heavy influence on their projections. Not including pharmaceuticals, a 4.1 percent gain in 2015 will be followed by a 3.5 percent increase in 2016. An influx of new investment and new capacity fueled by a competitive marketplace will provide the impetus needed for continued improvement. If the predictions are accurate, the U.S. chemical industry will outpace the overall U.S. economy.
