Giuliani Calls for Better Shale Public Relations
According to a Pennsylvania State Impact article by Jon Hurdle, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani thinks the shale oil and gas industry is getting a bad rap. Giuliani is encouraging the natural gas industry to mount a public-relations campaign to better inform people about the relatively safe process of shale gas development. The unfounded claims endorsed by so-called “extreme” environmental groups are instilling unwarranted fear among residents where fracking takes place, he said.
Senate Under Fire for Chemical Safety Reform
A Hill article by Lydia Wheeler says that Senate leaders are being pressed by environment, health and consumer advocates to hold a vote on bipartisan legislation for a major overhaul of chemical safety laws, specifically, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Apparently, Fred Krupp, executive director of the Environment Defense Action Fund on a conference call with reporters said the TSCA hasn’t worked since President Gerald Ford signed it into law on Oct. 12, 1976.
